How the papal blessing works

The St. Benedict medal

One of the oldest Catholic sacramentals, worn for protection against evil. The letters are the initials of Latin prayers: on the cross, Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux (May the holy cross be my light); around the edge, Vade Retro Satana (Begone, Satan).

Handmade in Italy, this 3-inch St. Benedict crucifix joins silver-color metal and deep red enamel around the sacramental Catholics have trusted against evil for centuries.

  • Size: 3 inches (7.5 cm)
  • Material: High-quality silver-color metal with red enamel accents
  • Detail: St. Benedict Medal embedded on both front and back
  • Blessing: Blessed by Pope Leo XIV in St. Peter's Square
  • Origin: Handmade in Italy
  • Shipping: Ships from Rome, Italy

The medal at its center carries the Vade retro satana — "Step back, Satan" — formula, a prayer of protection in use since the 15th century. Attach it to a rosary, wear it as a pectoral cross, or hang it near the door of a new home; it is a strong, tangible choice for baptisms and confirmations.
