The St. Benedict medal

One of the oldest Catholic sacramentals, worn for protection against evil. The letters are the initials of Latin prayers: on the cross, Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux (May the holy cross be my light); around the edge, Vade Retro Satana (Begone, Satan).

This beautifully detailed medal features the traditional symbols and inscriptions associated with Saint Benedict of Nursia.

The reverse includes the well-known Vade Retro Satana formula, traditionally translated as “Begone, Satan,” which has been used for centuries in Catholic devotional practice.

The St. Benedict Medal has a long history within the Catholic Church and is traditionally carried, worn, or attached to rosaries as a sacramental and a reminder of faith, prayer, and spiritual protection.

This medal was originally blessed during the pontificate of Pope Francis and has subsequently also received a blessing during a public audience of Pope Leo XIV in St. Peter’s Square.
