Remembered for the stigmata and for his counsel to pray, hope, and not worry, Padre Pio was canonized by Pope John Paul II on June 16, 2002. His feast day falls on September 23, and he is honored as patron of civil defense volunteers, adolescents, and his native Pietrelcina.
